WEB BASED EMPLOYEE LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Web-based tools have changed the way we approach employee learning and development. The world e-learning is becoming more complex every day, as new technologies are introduced and there are growing concerns related to tracking of results, security, and interoperability. According to (Collin, 2007), learning is the basis for any training and development activity. So, because of that ELD web based systems have been created and emphasize more on the career and future development for employees in companies.

The role of the Employee Learning and Development is to promote and support employee and organization growth, development and empowerment by providing innovative, quality workplace learning programs, resources and services. In this context, Maurer (2002) mention the significant of employees’ voluntary development and continuous learning has become extensively known as important to organization effectiveness.

There are several advantages of ELD system, which including cost and time effective, helps to empowerment and facilitation, as well as improve employee’s computer skills. All the information that related to employee’s training programs can well-recorded in the ELD system. Thus, through the ELD system, summary of employee training information could be accessed easily by the administrators of the organization such as human resource executives. On the other hand, employee’s computer skills will improve when they using computer to search what training that want to participate or during their training session. While there are also have three weaknesses of ELD system which are certain contents are not suitable to employees, need employees to know the basic skill and lastly was lack of human contact.

The Internet can supply to various individual or cultural learning styles, careful study of background information, viewing of diagrams or images, and interactive learning by doing. Comparison between ELD system and traditional paper-based ELD system is for computerization, it more self-service, no face-to-face communication and lastly inflexible.

The important thing is, ELD system needs to support by the decision of upper management, their budget, and learning culture in the organization. Serrat (2009) stated that a learning organization influence effectiveness in develop organizational. Because of that, there is no doubt that ELD system is an effective and efficient system which helps individual employee and organization in preparing the employees with their future work and improve employee’s performance and the organization’s itself. It also can increase the employee’s knowledge, skill and attitude toward their current work, to ensure the employees can keep on competitiveness and will perform in their work and so on.
